KSEB bill calculator for Kerala homes
Kerala's domestic tariff is easy to misread. The slabs are set per month, most homes are billed every two months, and once you cross 250 units a month the cheaper lower slabs stop applying and every unit is charged at a single higher rate. The fixed charge also rises as you move up. Enter your monthly units in the calculator below to see the energy charge, the fixed charge and the total under the KSERC tariff in force from 1 April 2025. Then read how two-month bills map onto monthly slabs, see worked bills from 100 to 500 units, and find out why 251 units costs far more than 250.
- Lowest slab
- ₹3.35/unit (0–50)
- Bill at 250 units/month
- ₹1,592.50
- Bill at 251 units/month
- ₹1,914.25
How KSEB domestic slabs are charged
The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC) sets the domestic (LT-I) tariff, and KSEB Ltd bills it. There are two regimes:
- Up to 250 units a month: telescopic. Each slab's rate applies only to the units inside it. The first 50 units cost ₹3.35, the next 50 cost ₹4.25, and so on up to ₹8.50 for units 201–250.
- Above 250 units a month: non-telescopic. All units are billed at one rate, chosen by your total. A home using 300 units pays ₹6.75 on every unit; at 450 units it pays ₹8.25 on every unit.
On top of the energy charge there is a fixed charge per month that depends on your slab and whether the connection is single-phase or three-phase. The calculator below uses single-phase fixed charges. Your bill also adds electricity duty (10% of the energy charge under the Kerala Electricity Duty Act), meter rent and any fuel surcharge, which the calculator leaves out.
BPL households with a connected load of 1,000 watts or less that use up to 40 units a month pay ₹1.50 per unit with no fixed charge.
| Monthly units | Type | Energy ₹/unit | Fixed ₹/month (1-phase) | Fixed ₹/month (3-phase) |

| 0–50 | Telescopic | 3.35 | 50 | 130 |

| Slab | Units | Amount |

| All 300 units @ ₹6.75 | 300 | ₹2,025 |

| Estimated bill | ₹2,245 |
Estimate from published energy-charge slabs (KSERC Schedule of Tariff, OP No. 18/2023, as of 2025-04-01). Monthly slabs with single-phase fixed charges; above 250 units a month every unit is billed at one rate. Excludes electricity duty, fuel surcharge and meter rent.
Worked bills from 100 to 500 units a month
Here is what the calculator gives for typical monthly consumption on a single-phase connection, before duty, meter rent and fuel surcharge. The working is simple below 250 units: add up each slab. At 200 units, that's 50 × ₹3.35 + 50 × ₹4.25 + 50 × ₹5.35 + 50 × ₹7.20 = ₹1,007.50, plus a ₹140 fixed charge, for ₹1,147.50. Above 250 units, multiply all units by one rate: 300 units × ₹6.75 = ₹2,025, plus ₹220, for ₹2,245.
| Units/month | Energy charge | Fixed charge | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | ₹380.00 | ₹85 | ₹465.00 |
| 150 | ₹647.50 | ₹105 | ₹752.50 |
| 200 | ₹1,007.50 | ₹140 | ₹1,147.50 |
| 250 | ₹1,432.50 | ₹160 | ₹1,592.50 |
| 300 | ₹2,025.00 | ₹220 | ₹2,245.00 |
| 400 | ₹3,180.00 | ₹260 | ₹3,440.00 |
| 500 | ₹4,125.00 | ₹285 | ₹4,410.00 |
Energy plus single-phase fixed charge from the KSERC schedule. Electricity duty (10% of energy), meter rent and fuel surcharge are extra.
| 100 units | ₹465 |
|---|---|
| 200 units | ₹1,147.5 |
| 250 units | ₹1,592.5 |
| 300 units | ₹2,245 |
| 400 units | ₹3,440 |
| 500 units | ₹4,410 |
Using the calculator for a two-month bill
KSEB reads most domestic meters every two months. For these bills it doubles each monthly slab: the first 100 units are charged at the 0–50 rate, the next 100 at the 51–100 rate, and so on, and the fixed charge is billed for both months. KSEB's own tariff circular shows this in its ready reckoner for bi-monthly consumers. So the quick method is:
- 1Take the units on your two-month bill (current reading minus previous reading).
- 2Halve it to get the monthly figure, and enter that in the calculator.
- 3Double the calculator total to estimate the two-month energy and fixed charges.
- 4Add roughly 10% of the energy charge for electricity duty, plus meter rent if your bill shows it.
Why 251 units costs more than 250
At 250 units a month you are still on telescopic slabs, so the first 200 units are billed at the cheaper rates. At 251 units every unit moves to ₹6.75 and the fixed charge rises from ₹160 to ₹220. The monthly bill goes from ₹1,592.50 to ₹1,914.25, about ₹322 more for one unit. On a two-month bill the same line sits at 500 units.
If you're close to the line, spread heavy loads across the cycle, check the meter midway, and switch off water heaters and pumps when they aren't needed. Homes above 250 units with a three-phase connection are billed on time-of-day rates, where evening use costs more, so shifting loads to daytime helps there too.
Paying your KSEB bill
KSEB identifies each connection by a 13-digit consumer number printed on the bill. You can pay on KSEB's quick-pay page at wss.kseb.in, at a section office, or through a Bharat Connect (BBPS) app. On Subspace, choose KSEB in the electricity list, enter the consumer number, confirm the amount the board returns, and pay by UPI. KSEB's helpline is 1912. If your household also pays a Kerala Vision broadband bill, see Kerala Vision broadband.
Frequently asked questions
How is the KSEB bill calculated?
Up to 250 units a month, each slab is billed at its own rate (telescopic). Above 250 units, all units are billed at one rate set by your total (non-telescopic). A monthly fixed charge, 10% electricity duty on the energy charge, meter rent and any fuel surcharge are added.
Is the KSEB bill monthly or bi-monthly?
Most domestic meters are read every two months. The tariff slabs are monthly, so KSEB doubles each slab for a two-month bill. Halve your two-month units, use the calculator, and double the result.
What happens when I cross 250 units a month?
Every unit is billed at ₹6.75 instead of the cheaper telescopic slabs, and the single-phase fixed charge rises from ₹160 to ₹220. The bill goes from ₹1,592.50 at 250 units to ₹1,914.25 at 251 units.
Does the KSEB bill calculator include electricity duty?
No. It shows energy and fixed charges only. Electricity duty is 10% of the energy charge, and meter rent and fuel surcharge are also added on the actual bill.
Are these rates current?
Yes. They are from the KSERC Schedule of Tariff valid from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2027, and no hike was approved for 2026-27.
Is the fixed charge different for three-phase connections?
Yes. Three-phase fixed charges are higher in the lower slabs, for example ₹130 a month against ₹50 for single-phase in the 0–50 slab. The table on this page lists both.
