South Bihar Power Distribution Company Ltd (SBPDCL) supplies electricity across south Bihar, including Patna. Since July 2025, Bihar households get their first 125 units a month free, so many SBPDCL bills are now small or zero, and the amount depends on how far past 125 units you go. Your bill is identified by a CA number (also called the K number or consumer number). How 125 free units and the urban tariff add up
BERC's 2026-27 order merged the urban domestic slabs into one rate of ₹7.42 a unit. The state government then subsidises it, so an urban (DS-II) home pays ₹4.12 a unit above the free allowance, plus a fixed charge of ₹80 per kW per month. Under the Mukhyamantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana, the first 125 units a month are free, including the energy charge, fixed charge and electricity duty on them.
Above 125 units you pay for the extra units only, at the subsidised rate plus duty, and the fixed charge applies for the full period on the higher of your recorded load or 75% of your sanctioned load. The 125 units are pro-rated if your billing period isn't 30 days (125 × days ÷ 30).
Units above 125 × ₹4.12 (DS-II rate payable after state subsidy, FY 2026-27). Fixed charge (₹80/kW), electricity duty and fuel adjustment are added once you cross 125 units.

Rebates, due dates and late fees
SBPDCL bills are due 15 days from the bill date. Paying on time earns a 1.5% prompt-payment rebate, and paying the full bill online by the due date adds another 1%. If the bill is still unpaid 10 days after the due date, a delayed payment surcharge of 1.5% a month applies on the outstanding amount. Smart prepaid consumers get ₹0.25 a unit off the energy charge instead of the prompt and online rebates.
