Getting LinkedIn Premium free or cheaper: trials, timing and the right plan

The only legitimate way to get LinkedIn Premium free is LinkedIn's own free trial. LinkedIn offers it to eligible members, the length varies by region and promotion, you need a valid credit card to start it, and it turns into a paid subscription unless you cancel. Cancel, and LinkedIn won't give you another trial for at least 12 months. Promo codes posted online, "free Premium" browser extensions and shared logins either don't work or break LinkedIn's rules. LinkedIn shows rupee prices only after you sign in from India, so this guide doesn't quote them. It does show how to make the trial count, how to pay for fewer months, and how to pick the cheapest plan that does the job.

How the LinkedIn Premium free trial works

LinkedIn's help pages set the rules. Trial length depends on your region and any promotion running when you sign up. You need a valid payment method, and the trial converts to a paid plan automatically at the end. If you've had a trial before, you may not be offered another, and after cancelling one you have to wait at least 12 months. You also can't switch plans for free during a trial, so choose the right one at the start.

  1. 1Go to linkedin.com/premium while signed in and check which plans show a free trial for your account.
  2. 2Pick the plan that matches your goal (see the table below); switching later ends the free period.
  3. 3Add a card and start the trial. Note the renewal date shown on the confirmation screen.
  4. 4Set a reminder two days before that date.
  5. 5If you don’t want to pay, cancel before renewal. See [how to cancel LinkedIn Premium](/guides/how-to-cancel-linkedin-premium).

Pay for fewer months by timing it

Most people need Premium for a burst, such as a job search or a hiring push, not all year. Start the trial when the burst begins, pay monthly only while you need it, and cancel once you've landed the job. For a four-month job search, that is three paid months with a trial, against twelve on an annual plan. Annual billing only makes sense if you'll use Premium all year.

Illustrative. Assumes a four-month search and a one-month trial; trial length and eligibility depend on the offer LinkedIn shows your account.

Which Premium plan you need

Paying for a bigger plan than you need is the most common overspend. Match the plan to the job:

Why LinkedIn Premium promo codes fail

LinkedIn does send discount offers, but to specific members, inside LinkedIn or by email, and they apply only to the account they were sent to. A code copied from a coupon site won't apply to yours. "Free Premium" extensions and tools that ask for your LinkedIn password put your account at risk, and LinkedIn's User Agreement treats accounts as personal, so sharing one login with friends can get it restricted. If someone offers you Premium through their account, decline.

Other ways to pay less

Students should check whether their university has a LinkedIn arrangement; we found no general India student discount from LinkedIn, but see LinkedIn Premium for students for what's available. Compare current plan prices in LinkedIn Premium price in India, and decide whether you need it at all with is LinkedIn Premium worth it. Subspace also lists LinkedIn Premium plans; current listings and prices are in the table above, and the LinkedIn Premium groups page has details.
