Free Amazon gift cards: what is real, what is a scam, and how to pay less
Let's be direct: websites, videos and Telegram channels offering free Amazon gift card codes are almost always scams. A gift card code only holds value because someone paid for it, and no generator can create a working one. What these offers actually want is your phone number, your personal details, your time completing "offers", or a small fee to unlock a prize that never arrives. This guide explains how the common scams work, the red flags to watch for, what to do and where to report if you've been caught, and the legitimate ways to pay less for a gift card, such as buying one at a discount on Subspace.

Why free gift card generators don’t work
Gift card codes are created by the issuer only when a card is sold, and each code is tied to a value someone paid. A "generator" can only produce random strings that fail at redemption, or recycle codes that have already been used.
The business model behind free-card offers is data and engagement. In one case the US Federal Trade Commission acted on, spam texts promised free gift cards. The sites collected a substantial amount of personal information, asked people to complete paid "offers", and then required them to recruit three others who would also complete offers. Nobody got a card without paying in some form.
Common gift card scams in India
Amazon’s own scam guidance puts it simply: no legitimate sale or transaction will require you to pay specifically with gift cards.
| Scam | How it works | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Free code generator or giveaway | A site, video or channel promises free codes after a survey or app install | Asks for personal details, installs or a fee |
| Boss scam | A message posing as your manager asks you to buy gift cards urgently | Urgency, secrecy, a new number |
| Lottery or prize | You have “won”, but must pay an enrolment fee in gift cards | Paying to receive a prize |
| Bill payment threat | Caller says your power or phone will be cut unless you pay by gift card | Gift cards as the payment method |
| Fake Amazon call | Caller says your account is frozen and gift cards will unfreeze it | Amazon never asks this |
| Family emergency | A “relative” needs gift card codes for an emergency | Pressure to act before you can check |
If you have shared a code or lost money
Speed matters. Gift card value can be spent within minutes of a code being shared.
- 1Call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 to report a financial cyber fraud.
- 2File a formal complaint on cybercrime.gov.in within 24 hours, using the acknowledgement number from your call.
- 3Contact the gift card company straight away with the card number and purchase receipt. For Amazon, use Amazon customer service.
- 4Forward phishing emails that pretend to be from Amazon, as an attachment, to [email protected].
- 5Change any passwords you entered on the scam site and watch your bank statements for unusual charges.
Legitimate ways to pay less for gift cards
There is no free lunch, but there are real discounts:
- Buy discounted cards on Subspace. Amazon Shopping Vouchers are listed at 1.5–1.9% off, and brand cards such as Domino's, PVR and Westside carry larger discounts. The chart shows what a ₹1,000 card costs today.
- Redeem bank reward points. Many credit card reward catalogues list brand vouchers. Check your bank's own rewards portal, never a link someone sends you.
- Employer and festival gifts. Some companies hand out gift cards; treat them like cash and redeem them promptly.
- Refer friends. When a friend joins Subspace through your referral link, you both get a discount; the amount varies by campaign.
If an offer is shown inside the official Amazon app or on amazon.in itself, it is real. If it reaches you through a forwarded link, assume it isn't.
Calculated at the highest discount listed on each brand page on Subspace at the time of writing. Prices depend on card value and stock.
| Amazon voucher | ₹981 |
|---|---|
| Myntra | ₹937 |
| Zomato | ₹940 |
| PVR | ₹822 |
| Westside | ₹889 |
| Domino's | ₹801 |
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free Amazon gift card generator that works?
No. Codes are created by the issuer only when a card is paid for. Generators produce codes that fail, or exist to collect your personal details.
Are free Amazon gift card codes on YouTube or Telegram real?
Almost never. Shared codes are usually fake or already redeemed, and links in those posts often lead to phishing pages or paid “offers”.
Does Amazon ever give free gift cards?
Only trust offers shown inside the Amazon app or on amazon.in. Amazon says it will never call you asking you to buy gift cards to unfreeze your account, and that no legitimate transaction requires payment by gift card.
Someone asked me to pay with gift cards. What should I do?
Stop and don’t share any codes. No genuine business, bank or government agency asks for payment in gift cards. If you have already paid, call 1930 and report it on cybercrime.gov.in.
What is the cheapest legitimate way to get an Amazon gift card?
Buy an Amazon Shopping Voucher at a discount on Subspace, currently 1.5–1.9% off, or redeem bank reward points through your bank’s official portal.
Are free gift card survey apps safe?
Treat any app that promises gift cards for surveys with caution. Never pay a fee, never share card or bank details, and check reviews before giving it your phone number.
