OTT releases this week in India

Everything new on OTT this week, with the app each title streams on and what that app costs. New films and series land mostly on Thursday nights and Fridays, so this list moves every week. Hindi theatrical films reach streaming about eight weeks after release, while most South Indian films arrive in about four, which is why a single Friday can mix brand-new originals with films you saw in cinemas two months ago. Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 and SonyLIV take most big releases, and two free apps cover older titles. Below: how to see what dropped this week in two minutes, how the release window works, and the cheapest way onto each app, alone or split with others.

Where this week’s releases stream

No single app gets everything — streaming rights are sold title by title. Big theatrical films go to whichever of Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, ZEE5 or SonyLIV bought them. TV-linked shows follow their channel: Star shows and Bigg Boss on JioHotstar, Zee serials on ZEE5, Sony shows on SonyLIV. Two legal free options cover older films: Prime Video's ad-supported section (after it absorbed MX Player in 2026) and Prasar Bharati's WAVES app.

How the theatre-to-OTT window works

Since August 2022, India's multiplex chains require an eight-week gap between a Hindi film's cinema release and its OTT premiere, so this Friday's big Bollywood opening is roughly two months from your TV. South Indian films move faster: the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council kept a four-week window in 2026, and Telugu films run on a similar clock. Hindi-dubbed versions of South films follow the eight-week Hindi rule, which is why the original often streams a month before its dub. Smaller films sometimes skip cinemas and go straight to streaming.

How to see what dropped this week

A two-minute routine on Thursday evening covers most weeks:

  1. 1Check the trending grid at the top of this page. It refreshes hourly and shows the app on each poster.
  2. 2Open the New & Hot tab on Netflix and the New Releases / Coming Soon rows on the other apps you pay for.
  3. 3Follow the apps’ official social accounts; streaming dates are announced a week or two ahead.
  4. 4For a film you saw advertised in cinemas, count eight weeks (Hindi) or four (South) from its release and search it then.
  5. 5Add titles to your watchlist in each app to get a notification on release day.

The cheapest way onto each app

You don't need all five subscriptions at once. Two habits keep the bill down: rotate — subscribe monthly to the app with the film you want, watch, then cancel before renewal — and share the expensive tiers. JioHotstar Premium allows four devices, Netflix Premium four screens. Split within a household, each person pays a fraction. Subspace groups let each member pay their share in the app.

Cheapest official way into each app, per month

Official India prices checked 12 Oct 2026. Annual prices divided by 12. Phone-only tiers; a TV needs a higher plan.

Cheapest official way into each app, per month
Netflix Mobile₹149
JioHotstar Mobile (monthly)₹79
Prime Lite (annual)₹67
SonyLIV Mobile Only (annual)₹58
JioHotstar Mobile (annual)₹42

Watching on a TV without paying for every app

The cheapest plans above are phone-only. A TV means Netflix Basic or higher, JioHotstar Super or higher, full Prime or LIV Premium. Sharing one of those with family or flatmates is where the savings are: a Subspace group brings JioHotstar Premium to around ₹75 a month each. For language-specific weekly lists, see the Tamil and Telugu guides.
