Camera and laptop rentals in Kochi and across Kerala: join the waitlist

Kerala rents cameras for weddings, festivals and a film industry that shoots on location. Kochi is the hub for Malayalam cinema's production houses, Thrissur Pooram draws photographers every April or May, Onam fills August and September, and the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, when it runs, turns Fort Kochi into a gallery. Laptop searches come from Kochi's Infopark and Trivandrum's Technopark. Subspace Minutes isn't live in Kerala yet. Rentals run in Bengaluru, where cameras start at ₹250/day and GoPros at ₹180/day. Below: what Kerala searches for, why waterproof gear matters here, festival kit ideas, and how to keep rented gear safe through the monsoon.

Action cameras for backwaters and monsoon

Kerala's backwaters, beaches and long monsoon make waterproof cameras unusually useful. A GoPro Hero 11, 12 or 13 is waterproof to 10 metres without a case, so houseboat rain, Varkala surf and Athirappilly spray are no problem. In Bengaluru, Subspace Minutes rents action cameras from ₹180/day, including Scuba and Swim Surf combos for the water.

Weddings, Onam and Pooram

Weddings: Kerala weddings are often morning ceremonies followed by a reception, so a photographer may need two setups in a day and spare batteries for both. Onam: pookalam close-ups, boat races and family sadyas reward a light mirrorless camera with a zoom. Thrissur Pooram: dense crowds around the temple grounds make a compact body and a telephoto zoom the practical kit, and batteries drain fast in the heat. Biennale: installations in Fort Kochi suit a wide prime and a quiet shutter.

Laptops for Infopark and Technopark

Kerala's laptop searches come mostly from Kochi and Trivandrum, the two big IT hubs. Typical reasons are familiar: a new joiner waiting for a company machine, a contractor on a short project, or a student who needs a laptop for a semester. A Core i5 with 16 GB of RAM covers most office and development work. For reference, Subspace Minutes in Bengaluru lists Windows laptops from ₹73/day and MacBook Air and Pro models above that. In a humid climate, check the keyboard and ports for corrosion at pickup, and keep the laptop in its bag during monsoon commutes.

Monsoon care for rented gear

From June to September, rain and humidity are the main threats to rented cameras and laptops in Kerala. These habits protect the gear and your deposit.

1Check lenses for fungus with a torch at pickup; humidity breeds it in poorly stored gear.
2Carry the camera in a dry bag, or a backpack with a rain cover and silica gel inside.
3Wipe off rain before you open any battery or card door.
4Moving from an air-conditioned car into humid air, leave the camera in its bag for a while to avoid condensation.
5Tell the shop about any moisture issue at return instead of leaving it to be found later.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent a camera in Kochi on Subspace?

Not yet. Subspace Minutes rentals are live in Bengaluru only, and Kochi is on the roadmap. Join the waitlist through the app to hear when it opens.

Where can I find a camera rent in Thrissur for Pooram?

From a local Thrissur studio or rental shop for now. Reserve early, run test shots at pickup and carry spare batteries for the heat.

What about a laptop for rent in Trivandrum or Kochi?

Not through Subspace yet. In Bengaluru, laptops start at ₹73 per day; Kerala pricing will be set at launch.

Is a GoPro safe in heavy rain?

The Hero 11, 12 and 13 are waterproof to 10 metres without a housing, so rain is fine. Keep the doors closed and dry the camera before opening them.

How do I spot fungus in a rented lens?

Shine a torch through the lens from the back. Thread-like webs or hazy patches mean fungus; don’t accept that lens.
