Spotify family plan in India: Platinum, and what happened to Duo
If you are looking for the Spotify family plan in India, here is the short answer: Spotify no longer sells Premium Family or Duo in India. After its 2025–26 plan changes, the only multi-account option is Premium Platinum at ₹299 a month, which covers up to three accounts at the same address and adds lossless audio, AI DJ and AI playlists. Filled, that is about ₹100 per person, less than the ₹139 Standard plan. For four to six people, other music services still sell true family plans. This page explains how Platinum works, what it costs per head, the address rule, and how YouTube Music and Apple Music family plans compare.

What happened to Spotify Family and Duo
In November 2025 Spotify replaced its Individual, Duo and Family plans in India with three tiers: Lite, Standard and Platinum. About six months later it dropped Lite and cut the Standard and Student prices. Family and Duo did not come back.
If an article quotes a Spotify Family price, it is describing the old line-up. If you were on Family or Duo before the change, your account page shows what your plan renews to now. Today's plans are Standard (₹139), Platinum (₹299) and Student (₹69).
Platinum and other family music plans
Platinum is Spotify's answer for households, but it caps out at three accounts. YouTube and Apple still sell plans for up to six people. Each has its own membership rule: the same address for Spotify, the same household for YouTube, and an Apple Family Sharing group for Apple Music.
| Plan | Price | People | Rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spotify Premium Platinum | ₹299/month | Up to 3 accounts | Same address |
| YouTube Music Premium Family | ₹179/month | Manager + up to 5 | Same household |
| YouTube Premium Family | ₹299/month | Manager + up to 5 | Same household; includes ad-free YouTube |
| Apple Music Family | ₹229/month | Up to 6 via Family Sharing | Apple Family Sharing group |
What each family plan costs per person
Platinum is good value for three people, but it isn't the cheapest family music plan per head. With six people, YouTube Music Family costs about ₹30 each and Apple Music Family under ₹40. Platinum's case rests on its extras: lossless audio up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz, AI DJ, AI playlists and DJ software support.
Official India prices, October 2026, divided by the maximum number of people on each plan. Rounded.
| Spotify Standard (1 person) | ₹139 |
|---|---|
| Spotify Platinum (3 people) | ₹100 |
| YouTube Premium Family (6) | ₹50 |
| Apple Music Family (6) | ₹38 |
| YouTube Music Family (6) | ₹30 |
When Platinum suits your household
- Two people: two Standard plans cost slightly less than one Platinum. Platinum only makes sense if you both want lossless audio or the AI features.
- Three people at one address: Platinum wins clearly over three Standard plans.
- Four or more: Platinum can't cover everyone. Either add a Standard plan for the fourth person, or move the household to a six-person plan on YouTube Music or Apple Music.
- A student in the house: Spotify Student at ₹69 may be cheaper for them than a Platinum seat.

Splitting Platinum on Subspace
Spotify's rule for Platinum is that all accounts live at the same address, so it fits families and flatmates who share a home. Collecting each person's share every month is the annoying part. There are no active Spotify groups on Subspace right now, but you can start one so members pay their share through the app instead of you chasing UPI transfers.
