SonyLIV Special+ vs Premium: the old tiers and today’s plans
If you’re comparing SonyLIV Special+ with Premium, there is one thing to know first: SonyLIV’s official helpdesk now lists only two plans, Mobile Only and LIV Premium. Special and Special+ are no longer on it. They were cheaper tiers that covered Sony and SAB TV shows and Indian films, but left out live sports and SonyLIV originals. Today’s lineup works differently. Every current plan includes live sports, SET and SAB shows and originals, and the plans differ by device, screens and picture quality instead. Mobile Only costs ₹699 a year, and LIV Premium costs ₹399 a month or ₹1,499 a year. Here is how the old tiers map to the current ones.

What Special and Special+ used to include
SonyLIV’s older lineup had three tiers. Plan descriptions from 2021–22 describe them like this; SonyLIV no longer sells them, and the prices are shown only for context.

SonyLIV plans you can buy today
The current helpdesk lists three options across two plans. All of them include five profiles, offline downloads, live sports and SET and SAB shows. SonyLIV calls the plans ad-free, but its helpdesk excludes sports, LIV Exclusives, reality shows (live and recorded), fiction shows and interactive features, so ads can still appear there.

How the old tiers map to today’s plans
- If you had Special or Special+ for Sony and SAB shows on your phone, Mobile Only is the nearest replacement. It also adds live sports and originals, which Special+ never had.
- If you watched Special+ on a TV or laptop, Mobile Only won’t work: it runs only in the Android and iOS apps. You need LIV Premium.
- If you had Premium, LIV Premium is the same idea. The yearly plan gives two screens; the monthly plan gives one.
On a monthly basis, Mobile Only is the cheapest way to watch anything on SonyLIV, and the yearly Premium plan costs about a third of paying monthly.
The biggest change for former Special+ users is sports. Under the old lineup, cricket and football sat behind Premium; now even the cheapest plan carries live sports, so a phone-only sports fan no longer needs to pay for Premium at all. What you give up on Mobile Only is the big screen, HD above 720p and Dolby Atmos.

Which current plan to pick
- Phone only, one viewer: Mobile Only. Live sports and originals are included; picture quality tops out at 720p.
- TV viewing, or two people watching separately: LIV Premium yearly. It costs less per month than the monthly plan and allows two screens.
- One big tournament or one series: LIV Premium monthly, cancelled when it ends.

Paying less for SonyLIV
The biggest saving is choosing yearly over monthly. Beyond that, you can share a LIV Premium yearly plan’s second screen with someone at home, or split the cost with others through Subspace’s SonyLIV groups.
