How to cancel YouTube Premium and its free trial in India

This is the quickest route if YouTube bills you directly by card or UPI. Sign in with the Google account that holds the membership first; if you have more than one account, the membership only shows up under the one you paid with.

In the YouTube Android app: tap your profile picture, then Paid memberships, tap the membership, tap Continue to cancel, choose a reason, tap Next and then Yes, cancel.

If you joined from the YouTube iPhone or iPad app, YouTube can't cancel it for you. Open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, pick YouTube and tap Cancel Subscription. Apple's refund rules apply to these memberships.

If Google Play bills you, open Google Play's subscriptions page and cancel there. Prepaid plans (1, 3 or 12 months paid up front) don't renew, so there is nothing to cancel; they simply run out.

YouTube's trial converts to a paid membership automatically: when the trial ends, the membership renews on the payment method you added. You can cancel at any point during the trial using the same steps above. YouTube's help page is clear on the timing: if you cancel during a trial, you lose Premium benefits at the end of the trial period, not on the day you cancel. So there is no advantage in waiting until the last day, and no risk in cancelling on day one.

When you sign up, you may see a small temporary charge used to verify your card or UPI handle. YouTube says it is not processed and disappears within 1 to 14 days.

Trial eligibility is strict. Introductory trials are for first-time members, or people who cancelled Premium, Music Premium or Premium Lite at least 6 months ago, with one trial per 12 months and one trial per payment method.

Cancelling and getting a refund are two different things. Cancelling stops the next charge, and your benefits run to the end of the billing cycle; YouTube does not refund the days between cancelling and the end of that cycle.

A refund is possible mainly when something you paid for doesn't work, for example videos or features tied to your membership failing. To cancel immediately with a refund, YouTube asks you to contact its support team from the refund page while signed in. Once a refund is granted, Premium access ends straight away.

Two exceptions matter: partly used prepaid plans are not refundable, and memberships bought through Apple follow Apple's refund policy, so you request those from Apple.

If you paid by UPI, your UPI app holds a recurring mandate for YouTube. Cancelling the membership stops YouTube from charging it, but it is good practice to open the AutoPay or Mandates section of the UPI app you approved it in and revoke the YouTube mandate once your benefits end.
