How to redeem a Spotify code or gift card in India

If you've been handed a Spotify gift card or a Premium code, redeeming it takes a minute at Spotify's redeem page. If you're looking to buy one, there's a catch: Spotify's support site now says Spotify gift cards are no longer available for purchase. Cards bought earlier remain valid and can still be redeemed, so older stock and gifted codes still work, subject to Spotify's rules on country, plan type and expiry. This guide covers the redemption steps, the rules that cause most failures (a Student or Platinum plan can't take a gift card), what happens if you already pay monthly, and the official ways to pay less for Premium Standard, which costs ₹139 a month in India.

Spotify gift cards are no longer sold

Spotify's help pages across regions now carry the same line: gift cards are no longer available for purchase, and previously purchased cards remain valid. Spotify's India card terms, issued by Spotify India LLP, add the local rules: you must redeem within 12 months of purchase, on a Spotify account registered in the country where the card was bought, and only for full-price standalone Premium months. Treat any listing that claims to sell new Spotify cards with suspicion, and never buy a code someone has already scratched or photographed.

How to redeem a Spotify code

Spotify's redemption steps use the website, so open a browser. Spotify's India card terms point to spotify.com/redeem, which takes you to the account redeem page.

1Log in at spotify.com/redeem (spotify.com/account/redeem).
2Scratch the PIN cover on the back of the card gently with a coin, or copy the code from your email.
3Enter the code and click **Continue**.
4Click **Redeem**. The Premium time is added to your account.

Rules that stop a code from redeeming

Most failures come from plan type or country, not a bad code. Spotify also locks the redeem page for 24 hours after four failed attempts, so check the code carefully before retrying.

If you’re on Student, Platinum or a shared plan

A gift card can't pay for Premium Student or a group plan, so redeeming would mean switching to individual Premium. If you're on Student at ₹69, that's a step up in price; keep the card for later or gift it to someone on an individual plan in the same country. Spotify's current India plans are Standard, Platinum (up to three accounts at one address) and Student.

Paying for Premium without a gift card

With new gift cards gone, the closest replacement is Spotify's 12-month prepaid Standard plan at ₹1,390. It's paid once, never auto-renews, and works out cheaper per month than paying monthly. Students pay the least. Platinum, at ₹299, covers up to three accounts at the same address, so a group on Subspace can split it.
