LPG e-KYC from your phone: Aadhaar face authentication explained
LPG e-KYC means biometric Aadhaar authentication of the person who holds the gas connection. Since 1 October 2026, a domestic refill at the regulated, subsidised price can be booked only after it is done, according to the Petroleum Ministry. Most people have already finished: 27.43 crore consumers, or 89.9%, by 19 September 2026, and they don’t need to repeat it. If you haven’t, you can do it from home in the HP Pay, HelloBPCL or IndianOil ONE app, at your distributor, or with the delivery person when your cylinder arrives. It is free. This guide walks through each route and what happens if you choose not to authenticate.

Which app to use for your gas company
Each oil company does self e-KYC in its own app, usually with the UIDAI’s Aadhaar FaceRD app handling the face scan. Install both before you start.

Doing e-KYC in the app
The connection holder has to be present, because the face being scanned must match the Aadhaar linked to the connection. Video tutorials for self e-KYC are on the PMUY portal if you get stuck.
- 1Install your company’s app (HP Pay, HelloBPCL or IndianOil ONE) and the Aadhaar FaceRD app.
- 2Log in with the mobile number registered with your gas connection.
- 3Open the e-KYC or Aadhaar authentication option and confirm your connection details.
- 4When FaceRD opens, hold the phone at eye level in good light and follow the prompts to capture your face.
- 5Wait for the confirmation in the app. If the scan keeps failing, use the distributor or the delivery person instead.
Where the country stands
By 19 September 2026, 27.43 crore active domestic consumers had completed biometric Aadhaar authentication, which the ministry put at 89.9% of the total. That leaves roughly 3 crore connections still to do it. Oil companies have been running reminders since October 2023, with more than 12 crore SMS and WhatsApp messages, follow-ups by delivery staff and camps at distributorships.
The government’s stated aim is to tie each subsidised connection to a verified person, so that domestic cylinders aren’t diverted to commercial use and duplicate or ineligible connections are removed. Earlier Aadhaar-based checks had already led to more than 4 crore duplicate LPG connections being deactivated, according to the Petroleum Minister in August 2025.

If you don’t complete e-KYC
You still get LPG. The ministry says consumers who are unwilling or unable to authenticate must register that choice on their oil company’s digital channels (portal, app, WhatsApp chatbot or IVRS). They are then supplied at market price, without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders, subject to local availability. Compare the cost on our 5 kg cylinder price page before deciding.
Once you do authenticate, booking at the regulated price is enabled again. You can then book and pay for refills as usual, including through a Bharat BillPay app such as Subspace.
Avoiding e-KYC scams
e-KYC is free. Anyone who calls asking for money, an OTP or your delivery code “to complete KYC” is not from your gas company. Do it yourself in the official app, at the distributor’s showroom, or with the delivery person at your door. For help, call the oil companies’ toll-free LPG line 1800-2333-555.

How do I do KYC for HP Gas?
